White Horse Challenge Details

Over the 6th and 7th June 2009, you can enter a team to walk in the White Horse Challenge whilst raising funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal. There are various options for taking part, you choose the one that best suits you.

Registration
You will need to register your team via the registration section of this website, we will then send you an information pack including sponsorship forms.

You will need to pay your entry fee within 28 days of registration to confirm your entry and no later than 29th May 2009. This can be paid by direct payment into our bank account, we will send you details by return, or by sending a cheque payable to The White Horse Challenge Limited.

Teams
For the White Horse Challenge, for safety reasons, you can only participate in a team of at least two people. If you would like to participate but can't find anyone to walk with, post a notice on our Bulletin Board requesting a partner. The minimum age for anyone participating in the White Horse Challenge is 16 years old.

For the Family Challenge, each team should consist of a maximum of two adults and no more than four children per adult. There is no lower age limit for the Family Challenge.

Complete Challenge Event Format
On the 6th June 2009 you will need to arrive between 07:30am and 09:30am at the Police Headquarters in Devizes, which can be found on London Road and is where the Air Ambulance is based. This is the A361 going from Devizes towards Swindon and the Police Headquarters is on the left as you leave the town, just after you go over the Kennet & Avon canal.

The event is designed to test your team's ability to get itself around the route. You will therefore need to prepare accordingly, have the appropriate kit and organise for food, drink and somewhere to sleep on the night of the 6th June

The first days' walking will end at Marlborough which is slightly over halfway round the entire route.

In Marlborough, there is plenty of choice of hotel and bed&breakfast accommodation, details of which can be found on the Visit Wiltshire website.

Alternatively, there is a camping site at Blackland Lakes and we can transport you there from the walk finish point and will provide breakfast on the morning of Sunday 7th June for everyone undertaking the Complete Challenge, Relay Challenge or One Day Challenge on this day.

The organisers can arrange for your tent to be erected for you so all you have to do is crash at the end of the day.

Relay Challenge Event Format
This event is completely flexible. You decide how far each person walks and where the swap-over points are - simply let us know your plans.

However, we would recommend that you choose official check-points to swap over. For safety reasons, you will need to have at least two people walking together.

Recruit a completely new team for the second day or the same people could split it up again.

One Day Challenge Event Format
Rather than walk the entire 55 miles, you could choose to walk just half the distance on either the 6th or 7th of June.

If walking on the 6th June 2009 you will need to arrive between 07:30am and 09:30am at the Police Headquarters in Devizes, which can be found on London Road and is where the Air Ambulance is based. This is the A361 going from Devizes towards Swindon and the Police Headquarters is on the left as you leave the town, just after you go over the Kennet & Avon canal.

If walking on the 7th, you will need to arrive between 7.00am and 8.00am at Preshute Church on the western outskirts of Marlborough. As you drive along the A4, travelling East towards Marlborough, turn right in to Manton which is also signposted the "Outside Chance" pub. Opposite the Outside Chance, turn left down a lane and Preshute Church is at the end of the lane

Family Challenge Event Format
Teams will need to register on the 7th June 2009 between 10:30 and 12:00 at the Police Headquarters where the Air Ambulance is based. This is on the A361 going from Devizes towards Swindon and the Headquarters are on the left as you leave the town, just after you go over the Kennet & Avon canal. There is ample parking here and we have arranged for transport to take you to the start of the Family Challenge.

The adult members of the team are responsible for ensuring that the children in the team are suitably equipped to take part and that they consider that the children are able to attempt the challenge. We recommend that the minimum age for children is likely to be 6 years old. They are also responsible for the safety of the children during the walk.

For safety reasons, one adult can not be responsible for any more than four children.
